The Shastri Institute is funded by, and partners closely, with government bodies both in India and Canada. The aim is to further bi-national ethos through different programs, facilitating scholarly research and exchanges between Indian and Canadian Universities, Cultural organizations, Government Bodies and United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC) aims at improving the research ecosystem of India’s Higher Educational Institutions by facilitating academic and research collaborations between Indian Institutions and the best institutions in the world from 28 selected nations to jointly solve problems of national and/or international relevance.

The Science & Technology International Cooperation Division of DST has the mandated responsibility of (i) negotiating, concluding and implementing S&T Agreements between India and other countries; (ii) providing interventions on S&T aspects in international forums.
